Manganeses de la Lampreana is a village in Zamora province, 60 km from the capital, in the La Lampreana region. A territory of lagoons, vineyards and medieval heritage that surprises all who visit.
Just 12 km from Manganeses, the Villafáfila lagoons are one of the Iberian Peninsula's ornithological jewels. Declared a Nature Reserve in 1995, they host over 35,000 great bustards during migration — the largest concentration in Spain.
The Villafáfila Interpretation Centre organises guided visits and provides all information about local birdlife. At dawn, when cranes cross the sky in formation, the experience is unforgettable.
In the centre of Manganeses stands the Church of San Miguel Arcángel, a late Romanesque gem with Gothic elements dating from the 12th century. Its square tower dominates the village skyline and can be seen for kilometres around.
20 km from Manganeses, Ricobayo is one of Spain's largest reservoirs at 120 km². Its turquoise waters contrast with the slate cliffs surrounding it, creating spectacular scenery — ideal for hiking, kayaking and water sports.
The Sanabrés Way, one of the lesser-known but most authentic Jacobean routes, passes through Manganeses de la Lampreana. Coming from Seville and crossing Zamora on its way to Santiago de Compostela, it's a route of great natural beauty.
Many pilgrims stop at Disco Bar Zulú to refuel with a glass of DO Toro wine. Manuel knows the local stretch perfectly and can guide walkers.
