The festivals of Manganeses

Manganeses de la Lampreana lives its traditions intensely. The San Bartolomé festivals in August are the most awaited event of the year, but Easter week and the traditions of the countryside fill the calendar with unique moments.

Spring · Variable date

Easter week

Easter week in Manganeses and the La Lampreana region keeps all the solemnity and authenticity of small Castilian villages. Night processions with hooded penitents and wood carved floats go through the streets in a quiet, moving atmosphere.

The Good Friday procession is especially striking, when the image of Christ goes through the village in silence and candlelight. An experience that draws visitors from across the region.

June · Corpus Christi

Flower carpets

As in many villages in Zamora, Corpus Christi in Manganeses brings the tradition of carpeting the streets with flowers and aromatic herbs. A display of colour and scent along the route of the procession.

Neighbours work through the previous night to create elaborate carpets with petals, coloured salt and plants from the fields. A tradition kept alive by the commitment of the community.

December — January

La Matanza, the winter pig tradition

A tradition still kept by many families in the region. The matanza, between December and January, is a culinary and social ritual that brings whole families together to make cured meats, chorizo and black pudding following the oldest recipes.

Some products from the traditional matanza appear on the Disco Bar Zulú tapas menu during the winter season.

Zulú during the festivals

During the August patron saint festivals and Easter week, Disco Bar Zulú runs special events: seasonal wine tastings, special tapas and a festive atmosphere. Check our events page so you never miss one.
